Addiction to Twitter and its kindred platforms has never been really in question, has it? As much as some people might want to deny it, there is a tendency to get hooked on these platforms for so many reasons. Only recently, a study showed that it might be easier to escape the entangled snares of cigarette and alcohol addiction than Twitter. Yeah, they say that Twitter just might be more addictive.
Not surprisingly, the research has been cited and shared countless times. The results are just too juicy to ignore! And as can be expected as well, an infographic has been put together to make the results even easier and more pleasant to digest.
Not sure if you are indeed addicted to Twitter? Well, you might be if…
- You not only know what the fail whale is, but you also have a t-shirt.
- You’ve reserved a Twitter handle for your unborn child. (This is a smart move, though.)
- You own the book Twitterature. (Seriously, do you know anyone who does?)
There was a study done in 2010 wherein the respondents were asked to go on a social media fast for 24 hours. The participants of the study described the 24 hours using the following adjectives:
- Addiction
- Physical or mental distress
- Failure
- Confusion
- Isolation
Needless to say, addiction rated highest. Have you ever tried to go without social media for 24 hours or more? Trust me – you might want to try it. It gives you a whole new perspective on things!
Here’s the entire infographic for your pleasure.
