Yahoo is “supercharging” its web mail services by launching more useful apps coming from third party providers. Starting today, all U.S.-based Yahoo! Mail users who have the option to add web apps and tools such as PayPal, Zumo Drive, Picnik, OtherInbox and Photobucket. This is in addition to the previous apps introduced earlier this year – XoopIt, Flickr, and Flixster.Using these apps requires you to sign up here first. But if you have already activated this feature on your Yahoo Mail account, the new apps will appear on the right side bar of your Yahoo Mail Inbox the next time you log in to your Yahoo Mail account.
Specifically, here are what these apps allow you to do while inside your Yahoo Mail.
- do basic editing of photos in your inbox or online and email them right after editing to your friends or upload them directly to Flickr or Picasa Web Albums through Picnik.
- organize your photos and upload new photos through Xoopit
- request and send money via PayPal
- send and share documents, videos and photos via Zumo Drive
For non U.S.-based Yahoo Mail users, the said feature would be available later on. And Yahoo better make sure of this, as this feature would add mileage to Yahoo Mail, enough to compete with the plethora of cool features that Google is introducing to its Gmail via the Labs features.
