You may not realize it, but every day you are selling yourself in some sort of situation. You want to win friends, you’re looking for love, you’re hunting for your dream job, and in every one of these situations you need to show people what kind of person you are. In each situation you want to show people that you are the right person for the job, and what you have to offer.
So how do you do this? Obviously, for a job you want a portfolio, but you are going to hand a portfolio to a potential friend, are you? Here are some tips on how to sell yourself, in any situation, and get the job, love, or friendship you want!
Put Your Best Foot Forward
While you want to let your future husband or wife know the real you, including all of your quirks and flaws, you want to start things with putting the best in front of the worst. Your loves and your friends will have plenty of time to get to know all of your sides, so why not win them over with your good side first?
When it comes to selling yourself in a job situation, it pays to follow the advice that says to always dress for the job you want, not the job you are applying for. If you already have a job, but you want a raise or you want to climb the ladder, you should look like the part that you want.
Prove Your Abilities
If you want to get a job as a photographer, you need to prove you have the ability to take a photo. That means having a portfolio, and being able to talk shop. For some jobs all you need is a well put together resume.
When it comes to winning friends, or lovers, you won’t have a piece of paper with the details of your experiences to hand to them (and that would be awkward anyway), so instead you need to prove yourself by being a good person and gaining their trust the old fashioned way. That means simply proving yourself every chance you can get.
And Smile
A smile can make all the difference in any situation. They are contagious, and even faking one can turn your bad mood into a good one. A smile makes you more approachable, for one thing. And if you are trying to get a job that has you working directly with people, your potential employer is going to want to know that you can flash those pearly whites and win over clients.
Want to make friends, or find love? If you’re sitting around with a scowl on your face people are going to be afraid to approach you. You might be the nicest person in the world, but your lack of a smile could be keeping people from talking to you because they think you look mad. Smile, at least once in awhile.
