Heading off to a family vacation with kids you’re packing for can leave the best of us stumped. You never know what you might need on the road. Usually, people packing for a family vacation tend to totally overpack which can be a huge pain getting around the airport.
Instead of packing absolutely everything you think you might ever need and then some, opt for the things that are the most essential. Here are some of the most essential items that could come in handy on a trip with kids.
First Aid
You never know when a kid might trip and skin their knee or have a stomach ache. Depending on your destination you want to make sure you are equipped with plenty of sunblock. Sunblock can be extremely expensive if purchased at a densely populated tourist spot. Usually, the stores on the beach have prices marked up as much as 150%, so packing it with you instead of buying it on arrival can save you some extra cash.
Additionally, you want to make sure you have things like bug spray. In some tropical locations, bug bites are much more intense and can cause swelling and extreme rashes. It’s best to pack repellant.
Extra (Extra) Clothes
Packing extra clothes is what most parents aim for. However, when you think of extra clothes, put an extra amount on top of that and that’s exactly how much you’ll need.
Between food stains, mud, sand, or anything else you might come across on vacation, it’s best to have at least 3 shirts per day for each kid. You should also be prepared for any type of weather since even in an extremely warm climate, tropical storms can occur. To avoid being cold in a downpour pack one warm item of clothing for each family member.
A Camera
It goes without saying that you will definitely want to document your trip with your family. Make sure you pack a camera separate from your phone. A camera phone is nice, but there is nothing like a quality photograph from a camera with depth of field and proper settings.
Pack a camera without a huge lens. This can be cumbersome if on the beach or walking around for long periods. Instead, stick to something that’s easy to slide into a pocket or bag.
Kids Movies
Sure, you want your kids to take in the culture of wherever you’re traveling, but when the sun sets at night and the parents want to enjoy a nice tea or cocktail and relax, it’s really handy to have a movie to stick on for the kids.
Make sure you have plenty loaded on your tablet or laptop!
