Anybody here using Alltop? Frankly, I used this before during its intiial launch but stopped using it since it practically mimics what Techmeme is doing. Although Alltop has a broader coverage topic-wise, I still find Techmeme enough for my daily dose of Technews. But since, Alltop has just announced a new personalization feature, I decided to re-visit the site again to check out MyAlltop.
What is Alltop?
Alltop is a some sort of a news aggregator which collects headlines from the blogs/sites that it covers and groups these headlines into appropriate topical categories. Think of it as a topic-based Techmeme, but wider in coverage and has a more organized presentation. Incidentally Alltop is the brain child of famous web personality – Guy Kawasaki. Alltop displays up to five headlines of different blogs/sites per category. The good thing about it is that when you place the cursor over the headline, Alltop will display a brief statement about the headlines and clicking on it will bring to you the site where Alltop got it from.
So, What’s MyAlltop?
Since Alltop has been live for several months now, it is but the right time to introduce a new feature that hopefully will entice users to use the site. And MyAlltop is one of the ways that Alltop hopes to tap to bring more audiences and users to the site. MyAlltop lets you personalized your Alltop browsing/reading news experience. It allows you to select only the blogs you want to check whenever you visit the site. You can then share your selection to your friends and other contacs. The best part is that adding blogs/sites is as easy as clicking on the + sign that you will see while browsing the main Alltop site.
Will I be Using Alltop?
Probably from time to time. I’ve already created a MyAlltop account and I’m now in the process of adding blogs/sites to it. I’ve got a couple of topics to monitor from time to time, so MyAlltop would be a nice way of accomplishing this task.
What can say about MyAlltop?
Obviously since the site has just launched, expect to experience some “buggy” times if and when you decide to use Alltop.
