Life should never be boring. Many would agree with this statement, but too often, it doesn’t reflect in an individual’s home. If you’re all about excitement and seeing the world for the beautiful thing that it is, than why would you be okay with living in a space that permeates boredom, monotony and routine?
Perhaps the reason is because you aren’t what you would call a creative soul. You don’t know the first thing about design, and you lack the inspiration to make your home as wonderful as the great outdoors. Just because you don’t know what to do doesn’t mean that you can’t have a room as grand or inspiring as the Sistine Chapel.
You have the power to make a room pop by using these creative design tricks. You don’t have to be a creative genius, you just have to attempt to follow a few directions. It won’t take much, but the transformation will make you wonder why you didn’t do it earlier.
Literally Stick Something Onto the Wall
In case you didn’t know, there are custom stickers available that you can put on your wall. They’re called wall decals, and they’re really cool. Whatever your interests, there’s a decal out there available. Get anything from trees and flowers, to your favorite saying, to the banner of your favorite sports team.
The amazing thing about these is that you don’t have to have any creative ability at all. All you have to do is peel and stick like a normal sticker and you’ve got a room with a statement design. Say goodbye to boring, and bring your favorite thing right inside your door.
Have Fun With Color
You know another thing that takes very little creative ability and makes a massive difference in a home? Paint. It’s unbelievable what a little color can do. Don’t be stuck in a place that feels like a sterile hospital room if you don’t have to. This is very accessible to anybody with hands and feet.
To liven up your home, go to the store and get your favorite color of paint. Here’s a little hint, though….bright paint makes a room look bigger and lighter. Dark paint makes a room look smaller. If you don’t like bright, but you like warm and cozy, read up on some tips about how to paint with colors achieve what you want without making things seem smaller than they are.
You might be feeling a little anxious about the thought of touching the wall with something permanent, but you can relax. The prep is pretty simple. Just line the part of the ceiling that meets the wall with painter’s tape. Do the same for the baseboards. Put down an old sheet to protect the floor, and have at it. Worse comes to worse, you can just paint over anything you mess up.
Use Rugs to Bring Life to Your Floors
The hot thing to have in homes right now is definitely hardwood floors. If you’re lucky enough to have them, but miss the comfort of carpet, consider getting an area rug for your living room space. Even if you have carpet, depending on the carpet, you can still have an area rug to add a pop of color or design.
Area rugs are so great because they’re so simple. You literally throw them down on the floor and they transform a space. You have the world to choose from in regards to color, pattern and design. Even if you don’t paint your walls or use fun decals, the use of an area rug will make enough of a difference in your space by itself.
These are only 3 interior design tricks you can incorporate into your home to make it pop. There are many other tricks like using mirrors and paintings, or painting the insides of your bookshelves, cabinets and closets.
Ultimately it’s your home and it’s your prerogative, but a colorful home that expresses your personality will prove to make you feel happier and more inspired in your day to day life. Beautiful surroundings inspire other things to be beautiful. So you’re basically just helping yourself be more beautiful in the end.
