How many gadgets do you take with you when you go out? If you are like many people I know, there has to be at least these things in your arsenal: a laptop, a mobile phone, a tablet, an mp3 player, and a camera. Some may forego the tablet and the camera, but the fact that you usually need several gadgets with you can be a burden.
That is why it is not surprising at all that people have been talking about the concept of a single convergence device. In a nutshell, the nature of this device is to put together most, if not all, the gadgets that you normally need. This is exactly what Indian industrial designer Prashant Chandra has come up with.
He designed the Lifebook 2013 and entered it in the Fujitsu Design Awards competition. The Lifebook 2013 may not have such a unique or imaginative name, but it sure holds a lot of promise. In fact, the concept made it to the top 100 entries, out of more than 3000 entries coming in from 99 countries. That is definitely no mean feat!
The Lifebook 2013 combines the gadgets that many people consider essential into one nifty package. It has a notebook, a tablet, a phone cum mp3 player, and a camera. As you might have expected, the Lifebook 2013 does not actually have a physical keyboard. The part that serves as a tablet turns into a virtual keyboard. I think that the most convenient thing about this device is that you only need to plug in one cord to charge everything! For someone who has a history of getting entangled in wires, this is priceless.
Unfortunately, it remains a concept device for now. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the likes of it in the near future, agree or not?
