What do you look for in a notebook? Certainly, it depends on what you will be using the device for, but in general, average people will look at the aesthetics and the specs. However, there is a good market for notebooks that can withstand the rigors of unusual use. That is where toughbooks come into the picture.
One of the latest laptops that fall into this category is the Durabook R13C made by GammaTech. In case you are wondering just how tough the Durabook R13C is, think about the United States Military Standard 810G. The Durabook R13C passed this standard and can withstand all sorts of “abuse”, from drops to shocks to spills. It doesn’t end there, though. This laptop can also withstand explosive atmospheres and continue to work in spite of salt, fog, and low temperatures.
Obviously, the average person will have no need for this kind of computing device. If, however, you work in an area such as law enforcement, mining, construction, and/or engineering, the Durabook R13C is the perfect laptop for you. The laptop has a case made of magnesium alloy, which is 20 times stronger than ABS plastic. I suppose this is also perfect for families with kids who just can’t keep their hands off electronic devices!
As for user friendliness, the Durabook R13C also has that in mind. Mac users will praise their backlit keyboards to no end, and if you ever get your hands on this new tough device, you will also have that advantage. More so, the LCD screen is compatible with sunlight, unlike many other laptops out there. Even with bright natural light surrounding you, you will not have much of a problem figuring out what the laptop is displaying on the screen. At 13.3 inches, this laptop is also very handy to carry around. Just don’t expect it to be as light as a MacBook Air!
