Microsoft Offers Free Training Resources to Elevate America
Microsoft is launching a new initiative that aims to equip individuals the necessary skills needed to land them a good job. The initiative would include providing access to Microsoft’s online training programs including use of email, creating resume and even some training materials on using Microsoft’s applications and programs.
As part of this initiative, Microsoft has launched a new website called Elevate America. This website contains relevant tools and materials that would help individuals gain the technical skills they need to land good jobs, or even start entrepreneurial endeavors.
Microsoft is also partnering with state and local governments to make Microsoft’s resources available to their constituents. Florida, New York and Washington are the first three states which will make this resources to their citizens.
So if you’re in need of some good technology-related training materials and programs, Elevate America would be a good place to start. Microsoft is even generously providing free vouchers that would grant you access to various Microsoft certification programs.
The Ultimate Converter Website
You probably needed to convert something in the past right? Whether it was inches in centimeters, kilograms in pounds or Celsius degree in Fahrenheit, we all pass through the pain of those conversions. The web certainly can help, but until yesterday I always used a different website depending on the conversion that I was needing to perform.
Not anymore! While browsing the web yesterday I came across a website that will do pretty much all the conversions you will need in a single place. I will call it the Ultimate Converter Website (they authors were too modest and simply called it “Online Converter”).
Here is a list of the things you will be able to convert there:
- Distance & Length
- Weight & Mass
- Speed
- Volume
- Area & Space
- Temperature
- Time
- Effect
- Pressure
- Energy and Work
- Bits and Bytes
- Morse Code
Heck yeah, they even convert Morse code!
Real-time Document Editing with Etherpad
The real appeal of the web is how its reduced the time it takes to get your work done. And compared to other web based services, productivity software have established revenue models with offering premium services or hosted services specifically for businesses. A new start-up called Etherpad now adds another layer to online collaboration by supporting real-time editing of documents across the net.
Etherpad allows users to share the URL of the document with anyone and make real time changes to the document. Each user is assigned a background text color so they can track the changes as they are being made. The feature has its skeptics and supporters. Some contend that live editing is not a necessary requirement. But when it comes to note taking during meetings, or collaborating within a group on a piece of literature, this is one cool way to track of changes and edits.
Its not that other online text editors cannot support similar feature. Perhaps its not a feature on top of their wish-list. The service does not require any signing up.
